A blocked or smelly drain is never on our agenda, so if you experience one, here are four top tips on how you can sort it out.
Use Hot Water
A proper cleanse with hot water could be all your clogged or dirty drains need to return to their healthy selves. Flushing the pipes out with hot water can often dislodge clogged materials and get rid of any horrible build up
Use A Plunger
Whether it’s a bathroom plunger or a sink plunger, you may as well try what you have first. To use a plunger, cover the entire drain opening/plughole with the plunger, and press back and forth/up and down in a continuous motion for a couple of minutes. Do it slowly and don’t be tempted to try pushing down with force of speed as you need the slow pressure build up to help remove clogs and blockages
Use A Drain Snake
Often used by professionals, drain snakes can sort out your problem quickly and efficiently. To use your drain snake, put it down your plughole or drain and turn the handle clockwise until you find resistance – this means the blockages has been found. Turn the snake against the blockage so that it can grab onto any of the build-up then pull it out slowly so that it brings the blockage with it
Make A Homemade Drain Cleaner
Commercial and shop bought chemical cleaners will often break down your pipe build-ups but that can also affect the health and make up of your actual pipes. One of the best and most simple at home solutions is that of vinegar and baking soda. All you need to do is pour one cup of vinegar and one cup of baking soda down your drainpipes via the plug or drain cover. Wait 3 to 5 minutes and then flush through with a kettle full of boiling water. This should remove any clogs for a price much smaller than a shop bought cleaner. You can repeat this if necessary and can do it regularly to flush out your pipes
