We all want to avoid an emergency, so if we can take steps to help combat one, we’d take it, right? So, here are 4 signs that a drain emergency could be on its way and how to combat them.
Slow-Flowing Water
If you have noticed that you have slow-flowing water, either from bath taps, kitchen taps, toilet, or sink, you’ve got an issue. Slow-flowing water rarely fixes itself and typically it’s an indication that there is a significant problem further into your drainage system, such as a broken drainpipe or a blockage. If you leave any of these untreated, you’re likely to get a flood. So, if you’ve spotted an issue with the flow of your water, get it checked out.
Bad Smells
A stinky drain or plug hole generally means you’ve got a blockage. This could be hair and soap scum causing water to remain still and become stagnant, or kitchen waste stuck down the plug hole and slowly rotting away. Bad smells can often be combatted with a household off the shelf cleaner and drain unblocker, so give this a go. You can also clean out your kitchen sink trap and check for any large blockages which could be hard to remove. As always, if the issue continues or you need advice, give us a call.
Low Water Pressure From Taps
Often, minimal water pressure from your taps means that there has been a burst water main in your area or works are being carried out to fix a problem. Contact your local water company to see if this is the case. If not, you may have a broken drainpipe on your property. If you do, contact us and we can help.
Unusual Sounds
Weird noises at night? Gurgling noises coming from your drains? Does the toilet flush sound different? Or are your plug holes popping? All these things could be indications that there is trapped air in your pipes, commonly caused by build-ups of debris like grease, oil, food and soap. Your drain tries to keep running as normal so pushes water and air around the blockages which can make these odd sounds. You’ll need to get the remove the blockage so can start with a household drain unblocker, but if needed give the professionals a call.
