First off, let’s look at the possible causes of blocked drains. It’s common during winter with the heavy rain, frost and strong winds that a build-up of leaves and outside rubbish can get access to your drainage system. However, the most common issues are household objects such as a build of hair, grease and non-flushable items (yes, those wet wipes!).
We always recommend you try a home fix of your drainage system if safe and accessible. Understandably, we’re available 24 hours, 7 days a week if you would prefer the peace of mind of one of our expert engineers to take a look at your blocked drain.
So, which acids are safe and commercially available to help unblock that unwanted drain of yours?
We suggest a drain un-blocker which contains Hydrochloric acid (HCl). This is also referred to as muriatic acid (displayed on the product). This is an extremely powerful ingredient used to unblock drains, you can pick these products up from all major retailers at a low-cost price.
The rest is pretty simple. Follow the instructions of the drain un-blocker to the letter, ensuring you wear protective hand and eye equipment. Once you look like you’re ready for a science lesson, make sure your drain is accessible and clear. Pour the acid down and leave for 30-60 minutes. This should resolve the unwanted blockages, but as we mentioned earlier don’t panic if the problem hasn’t been resolved. We’re here to save the day!
